Dimitrios Pantazis

Dr. Dimitrios A. Pantazis studied Chemistry at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece), with an honors research program in Quantum Chemistry. He obtained his PhD in Computational Chemistry from the University of York (UK) with Prof. John McGrady. Following an EPSRC postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Glasgow, in 2007 he joined the group of Frank Neese at the University of Bonn. He was awarded the 2010 Ernst-Haage Prize for Bioinorganic Chemistry. In 2011 he became a group leader at the Max-Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion in Mülheim an der Ruhr (Germany), establishing a research group devoted to the study of biological water oxidation. In 2015 he accepted a permanent position and since 2018 the group is based at the MPI für Kohlenforschung, leading the Quantum Biochemistry lab with a principal focus on photosynthesis research. Dr. Pantazis is a founding member and vice president of the Quantum Bio-Inorganic Chemistry Society. He has served as reviewer for all major chemistry journals and most european funding agencies. He is a regular contributor to schools and workshops, and organizer of a yearly summer school on the spectroscopy and electronic structure of transition metal systems.
